Hot Tin Roof have been bouncing around Cleveland for awhile now, opening for the likes of Book Of Love and making a splash, as it were, at Undercurrents, the Cleveland music showcase.
Straight off, Hot Tin Roof allow themselves the luxury of not being tied to a strict guitar/bass/drum format. The six song EP Junk And Desire shows a band with great promise and definite strengths. "heart Of Darkness" and "Victoria's Secret" would seem likely singles. Production is simple and the good hooks are able to come through. The former is somewhat reminiscent of The Buzzcocks. The latter is a rockier number with a solid guitar hook. The track previous to it, "Skin To Skin," is cut from the same mold, but lacks the hook. Not to worry, though, because "Heart Of Darkness", "Victoria's Secret" and "Don't Let It Fade" show that some good songs are present and accounted for.
"If Our Two Worlds Collide" is eerie, and probably appealing to those who like to step away from the bouncy and/or rocky 3 minute pop song. Gusty call for an opening track, but it's a disc you have to hear all the way through. Lot's of ups, one or two downs, thoroughly human.
